Avocado and Orange Salad

Be the first to rate it!

This orange and avocado salad takes just 10 minutes and uses everyday ingredients: ripe tomatoes, fresh rocket, and a simple dressing of extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. I love pairing avocado with orange because the buttery creaminess balances the juicy sweetness and tart kick of the citrus, while the rocket adds a gentle peppery bite.

There's no need to overcomplicate the dressing: the fruit supplies all the brightness and sweet notes you need. For the best result, pick an avocado that is ripe but still firm, along with truly flavorful tomatoes. These quantities make two servings, ideal as a light starter or side dish when you want something vibrant without turning on the stove.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make this avocado and orange salad in advance?

You can slice the orange and tomatoes ahead of time and store them in a sealed container in the fridge, keeping the washed and thoroughly dried rocket separate. Add the avocado and dressing right before serving so the avocado stays bright and the leaves don't turn soggy.

Can this salad be frozen?

I don't recommend it: as they thaw, the tomatoes and orange release all their juices and the rocket completely wilts. If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge and eat them within the day.

What can I use instead of rocket?

You can easily swap it for lamb's lettuce, tender baby spinach, or crisp lettuce leaves. Any of these will give you a milder green base that pairs wonderfully with the orange and avocado.
