Chinese-Style Beef with Vegetables

Meat
Be the first to rate it!

Today I am making Chinese-style beef with vegetables, loaded with carrots, zucchini, and that touch of soy sauce we love so much at home. It serves four, takes about 35 minutes from start to finish, and is wonderful served over cooked Thai jasmine rice whenever you want a heartier meal.

To make these beef strips with vegetables, I sear the meat first and use those tasty pan juices to cook the veggies in the same skillet—that is where so much of the flavor hides. Garlic, ginger, and toasted sesame seeds round out this stir-fry, making it an easy, satisfying option to switch up your weeknight dinners.

Frequently asked questions

What cut of beef should I use so it stays tender?

I used round steak (babilla), but sirloin or flank steak works beautifully too. Slice the beef across the grain into thin strips and sear it quickly in batches so the pan stays hot and the meat does not overcook.

How can I make this beef and vegetable stir-fry gluten-free?

Simply swap regular soy sauce for certified gluten-free tamari or gluten-free soy sauce. Always double-check labels on your other pantry items if you are cooking for someone with celiac disease.

How long will leftovers keep in the fridge?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge within two hours of cooking, and enjoy within 3 days. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat until piping hot, without letting it cook too long so the beef stays tender.
