Creamy Date Caramel Spread

Sauces & basics
Be the first to rate it!

This creamy date spread comes together with just two ingredients: Medjool dates and unsweetened plant-based milk. I love keeping a jar on hand to add a touch of sweetness to toast, yogurt, or morning oatmeal. Medjool dates, with their rich, fleshy texture, blend down into a wonderfully smooth, spreadable cream.

If you're looking for an easy date paste to sweeten your recipes, this is a kitchen staple you'll turn to again and again. You can use whichever plant-based milk you prefer, keeping in mind that its flavor will carry through. A fantastic option for anyone wanting to switch up their breakfasts and snacks with a homemade, minimal-ingredient spread.

CREAMY DATE CARAMEL SPREAD

I had to buy an extra suitcase on my way back from Israel because I brought back heaps of spices and dates. The best dates in the world were right there winking at us! Over there they use them constantly and they're so much more affordable than in Spain. This recipe has to become a regular fridge staple in your home. Once you make it, you'll never look back to other sweeteners! You can make it with water or herbal tea, though this time I wanted to make a creamier version, which is why I call it a date spread. Do you like dates? What's your favorite natural sweetener? Tell me in the comments, I read you all!

Frequently asked questions

What plant-based milk can I use to make date spread?

You can use whatever plant milk you normally drink, as long as it has no added sugar. Pick one with a mild flavor if you want the rich date taste to really shine.

Can you freeze date spread?

Yes, you can freeze it in small portions in freezer-safe containers. Thaw it in the fridge and give it a good stir before using to restore its smooth consistency.

How can I adjust the texture if it's too thick?

Add a splash more plant-based milk and blend or whisk until smooth. Do it gradually: for spreading on toast you'll want a thicker cream than if you plan to stir it into yogurt.
