Healthy Yogurt Sauce

Sauces & basics

This healthy yogurt sauce comes together in 5 minutes by mixing skyr with a squeeze of lemon, salt, garlic powder, and herbs de Provence. I make it whenever I want to add a fresh touch to our favorite meals without any fuss. It makes two servings and requires no cooking or blending: just stir everything together well.

If you're looking for a healthy, high-protein yogurt sauce, skyr provides a thick, creamy base without needing extra ingredients. I like adding the lemon juice gradually and adjusting the seasonings at the end so no single flavor overpowers the rest. At home, we love having a batch handy in the fridge to dress up salads, roasted veggies, or a quick dinner.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make this yogurt sauce with whipped fresh cheese instead of skyr?

Yes, you can substitute plain smooth fresh cheese or Greek yogurt for the skyr, though the texture might turn out slightly less thick. Add the lemon juice gradually and adjust the salt and spices after stirring.

How long does homemade yogurt sauce keep in the fridge?

Store it in a clean, tightly sealed container in the fridge and enjoy it preferably within 2 days, as long as the skyr is well within its expiration date. Give it a stir before serving if any liquid has separated.

Can you freeze this yogurt sauce?

I don't recommend it, as it can separate and lose its creamy texture upon thawing. Since it only takes 5 minutes to whip up, I always prefer making just the amount I plan to use.
