Gyoza dipping sauce and cucumber salad

If you are wondering what to serve alongside gyozas, I have two very simple ideas for you: a soy and rice vinegar dipping sauce, and an Asian-style cucumber salad. I love pairing them because the sauce delivers that salty, tangy kick, while the cucumber refreshes your palate between bites. It makes a wonderful accompaniment for gyozas that works just as well for lunch as it does for dinner for two.

For the gyoza sauce, I use two parts soy sauce to one part rice vinegar, plus a pinch of sesame seeds. The salad is made with cucumber, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds: just a handful of ingredients that also make a great light starter or a side for steamed bao buns.

If you enjoy fresh accompaniments, I recommend my Tzatziki sauce and my Yogurt lime sauce to switch up your everyday meals.

What goes into the cucumber salad to accompany bao buns?

Frequently asked questions

What is the ratio of soy sauce to vinegar for the gyoza dipping sauce?

I use two parts soy sauce to one part rice vinegar, topped with sesame seeds. For instance, you can mix two tablespoons of soy sauce with one tablespoon of vinegar, give it a taste, and adjust the acidity to your liking.

Can I prepare the dipping sauce and cucumber salad in advance?

You can keep the sauce ready in an airtight container in the fridge. To keep the cucumber crisp, store the dressing separately and toss it right before serving.

How can I make this gyoza side gluten-free?

Swap the regular soy sauce for certified gluten-free tamari, both in the dipping sauce and in the salad, and check the rest of your ingredient labels. If you need the entire meal to be gluten-free, the gyozas must be as well, since their wrappers are typically made with wheat flour.
