I love making special breakfasts, and these healthy oat waffles have become one of my go-to favourites to take care of myself. They come together in no time with pantry staples I always have on hand, and they turn out tender and delicious.

This recipe makes 4 waffles, perfect for sharing or keeping ready for an afternoon snack. All you need is a waffle iron or an oven-safe silicone mould, topped with your favourite goodies for an effortless homemade treat.

Ingredients

These are the ingredients you'll need for this recipe

  • 40gr whole oat flour (or whichever flour you prefer)
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon 0% fat whipped fresh cheese (quark)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

For the topping

  • Defatted raw cocoa powder
  • Flaked almonds
  • Pure cocoa nibs

Equipment

  • Waffle iron or silicone waffle mould

Step by step

  1. 1Mix all the waffle ingredients together well, setting the toppings aside.
  2. 2Preheat your waffle iron or the oven, depending on how you plan to cook them.
  3. 3If using a waffle iron, pour the batter so it covers the grids without spilling over, and let them cook thoroughly (once fully cooked, they will release easily).
  4. 4If using the oven, bake at 180ºC until you see the edges starting to turn golden, then turn them out and give them a quick extra minute to brown on the other side.
  5. 5You can also cook them in the microwave on high power for about 3 to 4min.
  6. 6For the topping, mix a teaspoon of cocoa powder with a little water until you reach your desired syrup consistency.
  7. 7If you like a sweeter syrup, feel free to add a bit of sweetener.
  8. 8Serve the waffles drizzled with the chocolate syrup, flaked almonds, and cocoa nibs.
  9. 9All done! Our healthy oat waffles are ready to enjoy.
