High-Protein Macaroni with Tuna

Rice & pasta
Be the first to rate it!

Today I'm making high-protein macaroni with tuna, one of those simple recipes I love having up my sleeve to sort out lunch without complicating my life. It's made with protein pasta, canned tuna in spring water, and a quick tomato and onion sofrito that adds plenty of flavor and keeps everything nice and juicy. Cooking it all together lets the flavors meld beautifully without needing a complicated sauce.

If you're looking for healthy pasta ideas to switch things up, this combination is an easy weeknight winner. The recipe makes three servings and comes together in just 30 minutes: five minutes of prep and twenty-five minutes of cooking.

To switch up your pasta meals, I recommend my high-protein macaroni with beef and vegetables and my whole wheat macaroni with chicken.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use regular macaroni instead of protein pasta?

Yes, you can use regular or whole wheat macaroni, adjusting the cooking time according to the package instructions. The tuna will still provide plenty of protein, though the overall nutritional profile will vary depending on the pasta you choose.

How long will this tuna macaroni keep in the fridge?

Store it in an airtight container in the fridge within two hours of cooking and eat it over the next two days. When reheating, add a small splash of water if it seems dry and heat through thoroughly.

Can you make this tuna pasta without tomatoes?

Yes, even though this recipe uses a tomato and onion sofrito. To make it without tomatoes, you can gently soften just onions and add a splash of the pasta cooking water when tossing the pasta with the tuna so it doesn't end up dry.
