Today we're making a pear and chocolate jam that we love spreading on warm toast or using to give a special twist to plain yogurt. We pair sweet, ripe pears with 100% pure dark chocolate and let chia seeds work their magic for the perfect spreadable texture. A simple homemade recipe that makes the most of natural fruit sweetness.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you need for this recipe

  • 5 or 6 Conference pears
  • 1 bar 100% pure dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Water

Step by step

Method

  1. 1Peel the pears with a vegetable peeler, core them, and cut into chunks.
  2. 2Transfer them to a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. 3Pour in 1/2 glass of water.
  4. 4Cook over medium-low heat until the pears break down and soften completely.
  5. 5Remove from the heat and mash them gently with a fork.
  6. 6Add the chocolate squares and return to low heat, stirring constantly until completely melted and smooth.
  7. 7Take off the heat and stir in the cinnamon and chia seeds.
  8. 8Spoon into small glass jars, let cool completely, and store in the fridge.
  9. 9All done! Our pear and chocolate jam is ready to enjoy.

Extra Notes

  1. 1If the pears are ripe, they don't need any added sweetener at all; once mixed with the pure cocoa, the natural sweetness comes through nicely. But if you prefer it sweeter, feel free to add a touch of date syrup or your favorite sweetener.
