These air fryer paninis are one of those easy weeknight dinners I make with just a handful of ingredients: a baguette, homemade tomato sauce, pizza seasoning, mozzarella, and pepperoni. They come together in about 5 minutes and need around 7 minutes in the air fryer, though the exact time depends on your machine. I love making them on busy weeknights served alongside a fresh green salad.

To keep these homemade air fryer paninis nice and crispy, I spread the tomato sauce lightly so the bread doesn't get soggy, and distribute the cheese evenly. The mozzarella melts into gooey perfection while the baguette turns beautifully toasted—a simple dinner that's also great for using up bread that's starting to go a bit stale.

If you love pizza-flavored dinners like this, I definitely recommend my Ham and cheese pizza rolls and my Skillet pizza.

Cooking time is approximate and will depend on your air fryer model.

You can reheat any leftovers right in the air fryer another day to get them crispy again.

Frequently asked questions

How long do paninis need in the air fryer?

They take about 7 minutes to cook, plus 5 minutes of prep time. Keep in mind this is an estimate: check on the bread and cheese towards the end, since every air fryer runs a little differently.

Can I use a different type of bread instead of a baguette?

Yes, you can use any crusty loaf or bread rolls halved lengthwise, as long as they fit in your air fryer basket. It's also a great way to rescue bread that has gone a bit stale; just keep an eye on it if the thickness varies, as the cooking time may shift.

What can I replace the pepperoni with?

You can swap it for cooked ham or well-drained canned tuna. If you prefer a meat-free version, try thinly sliced mushrooms—just don't pile on too many, or they might release moisture and soften the bread.
