I love going back to sharing photo content—it's a format I'm truly passionate about and how I first started out on social media. Sometimes we need to reinvent ourselves, but we also need to slow down and enjoy what genuinely fulfills us.

For this occasion, I made a wonderful homemade dough and two different sausage topping combos. In our house, we're definitely on team pineapple on pizza—though our son not so much—so we made a classic version with mushrooms and another with pineapple and red onion.

Ingredients

Pizza dough

  • 400 g bread flour
  • 4 g dry baker's yeast
  • 256 ml warm water
  • 1 tsp pink salt
  • 8 ml extra virgin olive oil

Toppings

  • Fried tomato sauce (tomate frito) to taste
  • 180 g shredded cheese
  • Canned mushrooms to taste
  • Fresh sausages
  • 1 tub cream cheese
  • Canned pineapple to taste
  • Red onion to taste

Step by step

Preparing the dough

  1. 1Mix the warm water with the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes to activate.
  2. 2In a mixing bowl or the bowl of a food processor, combine the flour, salt, extra virgin olive oil, and the yeast-water mixture.
  3. 3Knead well, cover, and let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.
  4. 4Preheat the oven to 215 ºC.

Assembling and baking

  1. 1Divide the dough if you want to make multiple pizzas, and stretch them out over parchment paper.
  2. 2Add your chosen toppings. For the first option: a tomato sauce base, shredded cheese, mushrooms, and sliced sausages. For the second option: a cream cheese base, shredded cheese, thinly sliced red onion, sliced sausages, and pineapple.
  3. 3Bake by placing the baking sheet directly on the floor of the oven for 5 to 8 minutes, watching closely until golden and crisp.

Tips and tricks

The exact baking time depends on your oven's power and how thinly you rolled out the dough.

Baking on the lowest rack or directly on the bottom of the oven helps you get a crispy base without burning the toppings.

Drain the canned pineapple and mushrooms thoroughly before putting them on the pizza so they don't make the crust soggy.

Frequently asked questions

Do the sausages need to be cooked before putting them on the pizza?

No need to precook them. Once sliced and scattered over the dough, they cook through completely during the high-heat bake.

How do I get a crispy pizza crust?

The trick is baking at 215 ºC with the baking sheet placed right on the floor of the oven for about 5 to 8 minutes.

Can I freeze the homemade dough if I don't use it all?

Yes, after the initial 30-minute rise, you can shape it into a ball, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and freeze it for up to 3 months.
