Today I'm making grapes with cheese and cured ham, a fresh grape appetiser ready in just 10 minutes without turning on the stove. I love pairing sweet seedless grapes with the savoury richness of cured ham and cheese. I use both green and red seedless grapes to add colour to the platter, and assembling them couldn't be simpler.
I dice the cheese and put the skewers together however I fancy, making sure every bite gets a little of everything. Using seedless grapes makes them clean and easy to eat and share. These quantities make an appetiser for four people, perfect for snacking before lunch or for an informal gathering.
To round out your spread, take a look at my Melon and cured ham shooters and these Cured ham roses, two fun ideas to keep playing with presentation.
Yes, you can assemble them a few hours ahead and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. Dry the grapes thoroughly after washing and keep the skewers chilled until serving.
You can use a semi-cured cheese or a mild cheese firm enough to cut neatly into cubes. Steer clear of very soft or creamy cheeses if you plan on threading them onto skewers.
I don't recommend freezing them once assembled: when thawed, the grapes lose their firmness and release moisture. They are best prepared fresh on the day you serve them.
