Iberian Ham and Sausage Pizza

Pizzas & savoury bakes
Be the first to rate it!

Today I'm treating myself to a homemade sausage and Iberian ham pizza, the kind of comforting bake you want to pull fresh from the oven and share right away. I top it with homemade tomato sauce, grated cheese, and onion—a simple, deeply flavorful combination for a dinner for two. You can knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer, whichever you have on hand.

For this Spanish-style pizza, I use bread flour and baker's yeast to give the crust wonderful structure and chew. The cured ham brings so much richness that you really don't need a mountain of toppings. If you love sausage pizza and want to try your hand at a homemade base, this is a fantastic weekend bake to enjoy at an easy pace.

Frequently asked questions

Can you freeze sausage and ham pizza?

Yes, you can freeze it once baked and completely cool, sliced into portions and tightly wrapped. Reheat the slices directly in a hot oven until heated through and crisp.

Can I swap the low-fat cheese for mozzarella?

Yes, grated mozzarella or any good melting cheese works wonderfully. If using fresh mozzarella, drain it thoroughly on paper towels so it doesn't make the crust soggy.

Do the sausages need to be cooked before going on the pizza?

If you're using fresh pork sausages, I recommend pan-frying them first until cooked through, then slicing them. That way you aren't relying solely on the quick oven bake to cook the pork completely.
