Zombie pizza

Pizzas & savoury bakes
5.0 (1 rating)

I'm rolling up my sleeves to make this homemade zombie pizza, a wonderfully fun and spooky way to liven up Halloween dinner. With minced chicken and turkey, mozzarella, and a little imagination, I shape a monstrous face with fingers, eyes, and teeth. It serves four, making it perfect for sharing and surprising everyone at the table.

The fun part of this zombie pizza is using everyday toppings to decorate: bacon, mushrooms, frankfurters, and capers all work brilliantly. The homemade dough is made with wheat flour and baker's yeast, and the tomato and cheese base ensures that, as well as looking fun, it tastes delicious.

If you feel like making more homemade pizzas, I recommend my Creamy frankfurter pizza and my Chicken and mushroom pizza.

Step by step

Method

  1. 1Add all the dough ingredients into the food processor and knead for 6min at speed 3 (if you don't have a machine, knead by hand).
  2. 2Transfer the dough to the counter, shape it into a ball, divide it in two, place on parchment paper, roll it out into a flat round, and let it rise for 30min.
  3. 3Pre-bake the crust at 200 degrees.
  4. 4Add the base toppings: tomato sauce, cheese, chopped bacon, and cooked mushrooms.
  5. 5Shape the meat into a face (season the minced meat to taste), drape the bacon slices over the meat, and brush with tomato sauce.
  6. 6Arrange the frankfurters to look like severed fingers.
  7. 7Bake at 200 degrees for about 10-15min.
  8. 8Place the mozzarella balls with a caper in the center for the eyes, and cut small pieces of mozzarella to make the teeth.
  9. 9All done! Our ZOMBIE PIZZA is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare the zombie pizza ahead of time?

You can chop the decorative toppings ahead of time and keep them stored separately in the fridge. Keep the raw minced meat in a sealed container separate from everything else, and assemble the pizza right before baking.

What cheese can I use instead of the shredded cheese?

You can swap it for shredded mozzarella or any other good melting cheese. Just be sure to keep the mini mozzarella balls for decorating, as their round shape is ideal for creating the eyes.

Can leftover zombie pizza be frozen?

Yes, you can freeze it once baked, sliced into portions and well wrapped, after it has cooled completely. Thaw it in the fridge and reheat until piping hot right through to the center; the decorations might lose a little of their shape.
