Today I'm making caper hummus bruschettas to give our everyday toasts a lovely twist. Chickpeas and tahini create a smooth dip that pairs wonderfully with the bold tang of capers and crusty bread. I like serving them topped with fresh tomato and feta cheese for a flavorful bite to share.

This chickpea and caper hummus is an effortless option for a four-person appetizer or a starter when you have guests over. To get the texture just right, I add the caper brine little by little and taste before adding any salt. That way, you get a wonderfully spreadable dip without the salt overpowering the flavor.

If you are looking for more tasty appetizers to share, I recommend my Beet Hummus and my Avocado Hummus, two great spreads to serve with bread.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make the caper hummus ahead of time?

Yes, you can keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Store the bread and toppings separately, and assemble the bruschettas right before serving so the bread stays crisp.

How do I adjust the texture of the hummus without making it too salty?

Add the caper brine a little at a time while blending. If it already has enough flavor but is still too thick, switch to plain water and leave the salt for the very end.

Can these bruschettas be made vegan?

The caper hummus is naturally vegan; to serve the bruschettas vegan, simply omit the feta cheese and ensure your bread is plant-based. Top them with fresh tomato, chives, and a nice drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
