Today we're making our thin-crust whole spelt pizza with serrano ham, a homemade recipe made with whole spelt flour and serrano ham to enjoy a wonderfully thin, crispy base. You can knead it by hand or let your food processor do the work. We finish it off with melted cheese and lay the ham over the top right as it comes out of the oven: time to enjoy it together!

Step by step

Method

  1. 1I made the dough in my food processor on speed 3 for 6 minutes, but you can easily make it by hand following these steps:
  2. 2Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
  3. 3Mix the warm water with the yeast and let it activate.
  4. 4Add the rest of the ingredients.
  5. 5Knead until smooth.
  6. 6Roll out the dough using a rolling pin or stretch it out with your hands.
  7. 7Place it onto a sheet of baking paper.
  8. 8Give it a first bake for 10 minutes or until you see the crust starting to get some color.
  9. 9Spread with tomato sauce, onion powder, shredded cheese, and the mini mozzarella balls.
  10. 10Bake for 5 minutes at 180ºC or until the cheese is nicely melted and lightly golden.
  11. 11Take it out of the oven and top with the serrano ham and chopped chives.
  12. 12All done! Now we can dive into our thin-crust whole spelt pizza with serrano ham.

Notes

  1. 1I don't let the dough rise because I want it super thin and crispy. If you prefer a bit more puff and chew, let it rest for 30 minutes.
